Surgical Wall Repair

I've always had a vision of surgical illustration as street art. Slicing open a wall and retracting the brick back to reveal anatomy underneath would be so striking (or horrifying) to someone walking down the street. This surgical wall project by medical illustrators Joshua Klein, Roy Schneider, and Tonya Floyd-Bradstock comes close to that vision! Created in a Trompe l'oeil technique, the mural of a surgical wall repair stands 6 by 8 feet tall. It is located at the Center for Creative Instruction at the University of Toledo.

There is so much thought put into the details. Something so characteristic of medical illustrators. Everything down to the tiny mouse peeking through the insulation.
