Billy Reynolds Everyday Exposure
We've been following the work of Billy Reynolds for the past 6 years and have noticed that he never fails to find morbid humor in the mundane. It's what we love about him.In his latest works (2014-2015) Billy focuses on inserting historical anatomical illustration, from the likes of Scarpa and Maclise, into his self-portraits. The self-portraits range from bland business-like headshots to mirroring the body compositions in the historical anatomy texts. This sort of fluctuation from the medical educational realm to human existence is what makes his work so fascinating.Billy states, "I enter the unknown with each new piece of art to honor the fragility of human existence. My work at first might seem too aggressive, but take a closer look and there is optimism too – optimism of being alive in our own complex state of being."To view more of Billy Reynolds' work, visit billyreynolds.com.
